Soul winning, also known as evangelism, is an essential aspect of the Christian faith. The Apostle Paul understood the importance of soul winning. He wrote in 1 Corinthians 9:22-23, “To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.” Paul understood that he had to adapt to different situations and people in order to share the Gospel effectively.
Soul winning is not always easy. It can be challenging to talk about our faith with others, especially if they are not receptive or hostile to the message. However, we should not be discouraged by this. Jesus told us in John 15:18-19, “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” We should expect opposition and persecution when we share the Gospel, but we should also remember that we are not alone in our efforts.
The Holy Spirit is our helper and guide in soul winning. Jesus promised in John 14:16-17, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” The Holy Spirit empowers us to speak boldly and wisely, and He opens the hearts of those who hear the Gospel.
Soul winning is not just about getting people to make a decision to follow Christ; it is also about making disciples. We are called to teach others to observe all that Jesus has commanded us. This means helping new believers grow in their faith and guiding them to become mature followers of Christ.
